For instance, the custom contraption seen on this website took Jedi Ice 6 months to design & build. It cost him about $600. But He created it from 1/8 " Aluminum square tubing which is very strong, but expensive. The electric 36V drive system cost arounf $275 including the batteries. You could easily create yours out of wood and spare parts, and eliminate the electric drive for super cheap. Just find 2 old mountain bikes to scavenge parts from and your in business.

Early on when we were deciding how we wanted to look as a group on the parade route, we agreed that those of us who marched, would be ahead of the contraptions and all carry Lightsabers. Consider it an important part of a Jedi outfit, and should always be carried while we march in the Chewbacchus Parade. You do not need to buy one to march with us. You can borrow one or even make one. But it should light up and look as authentic to the Star Wars movies as possible. Painted Plastic or PVC hilts are fine for this purpose.
